The Company
We’re partnering with an established insurance business that’s investing heavily in its technology function to modernise the way it delivers products and services. As digital transformation continues to be a key focus, they’re looking to expand their engineering team with the addition of a Python Developer.
You’ll be joining a collaborative technology team responsible for building and enhancing platforms that support policy management, underwriting, claims, pricing and internal business systems. Technology plays a central role within the organisation, with significant investment in cloud infrastructure, automation and modern software engineering practices.

The Role
As a Python Developer, you’ll design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications that support key business functions across the organisation. You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects and fellow Software Engineers to deliver secure, reliable and high-performing solutions.
This role offers exposure to modern cloud technologies, API development, automation and data-driven applications within a highly collaborative Agile environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, developing and maintaining backend applications using Python
- Building scalable RESTful APIs and backend services
- Developing applications that support underwriting, claims, policy administration and internal operational systems
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Collaborating with Product Managers, Business Analysts and Software Engineers to deliver new features
- Integrating with third-party platforms and internal services
- Working with SQL databases to optimise application performance and data management
- Supporting cloud-based applications and deployments
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
- Troubleshooting production issues and continuously improving system performance
- Participating in code reviews and technical design discussions
- Promoting engineering best practices across the wider development team
What They’re Looking For
Essential Skills
- Commercial experience developing applications with Python
- Experience using frameworks such as Django, FastAPI or Flask
- Strong experience building REST APIs
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming principles
- Experience working with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server or MySQL
- Experience with Git version control
- Familiarity with Docker and containerised applications
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
- Experience writing automated unit and integration tests using PyTest or similar
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Previous experience working within insurance, financial services or another regulated environment
- Experience with Azure cloud services
- Knowledge of microservices architecture
- Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Exposure to AI or machine learning technologies
- Experience working with large-scale enterprise applications
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep)
